Welcome to Secure-Force web site!

What is Secure Force?

secure_forceSecure Force comprises a network of European partners promoting the participation of small and medium sized companies in the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), the EU's main instrument for funding  research and development across Europe.

Secure Force is an ETI project focused on SECURITY research.

Who should be involved?

SECURE FORCE will be of interest of small and medium sized companies with an interest in SECURITY-research-related sectors, such as:
  • Secure communication systems and services
  • Networked infrastructure security
  • Trasportation facility security (including aeronautics)
  • Privacy and data protection
  • Protection against terrorism & bio-terrorism
  • Crisis prevention and management
SECURE FORCE will also be of relevance to Universitie, public research centres and large companies in the security fields with a view to integrating small companies with appropriate technologies and expertise in their security related R&D projects, funded through FP7.

Innovative X and gamma ray detectors for homeland security
Scritto da CiaoTech
02 March 2007

The use of X- and Gamma-rays in the detection of weapons or hazardous substances is widespread whenever sensitive areas are to be protected or cargo is to be monitored.

The use of Cadmium Zinc Telluride (CZT) detectors in security systems offers enhanced possibilities with respect to mainstream technologies.

Why CZT detectors?

  • Efficient yet compact due to their high density
  • Wide photon energy range (10keV-2MeV)
  • Excellent energy resolution
  • Do not require cooling (RT operation)
  • Solid-state: do not require fragile photomultiplier tubes
  • Robust and able to withstand rapid temperature changes
  • Easily enabled imaging capabilities

Isotope Identifier

  • Portable instrument
  • Two main objectives: isotope localization and identification.
  • All the typical nuclear isotopes present emission lines in the 10keV-1.2MeV range
  • Use of CZT detectors
  • Compatible with laptop or palm top computer
  • The group has been developing an isotope identifier in the frame of a project financed by Emilia Romagna under the PRRIITT program.

Bio-inspired Cognitive Multisensor-Multimodal Nodes for Detection of Events, Anomalous Behaviours
Scritto da CiaoTech
26 February 2007

Research areas: improved perception and analysis

Starting from existing coupled panoramic-PTZ tools studying more robust scene descriptors towards better event and situation assessment

  • Robust self-adaptive cooperative trackers
  • 3D object shape reconstruction and recognition
  • Self organizing models for abnormal behaviour detection
  • Multiple object modelling for recognition
  • Situation and interaction modelling
  • Multimodal decision and action tools for proactive surveillance

Starting from systems able of learning simple normal behaviours (e.g., normal trajectories developed with Autostrade, normal interactions with mobile pedestrians FIRB-VICOM,) to apply detection of abnormal conditions to more complex dynamic scene descriptors

  • Learn cause/effect of normal relationships
  • Predict normal behaviours in the on-line phase (with the Autobiographical Memory)
  • Detect abnormal conditions as inconsistency with respect to prediction
  • Extend this capabilities to a structure of multiple cognitive nodes
