The CISTRANA event was a success and the final slides can be found at http://www.cistrana.org/events/index_security_seminar.htm
I want to thank everyone who contributed to the position paper and enabled me to put together such a comprehensive presentation. I would also like to thank Paul Walland of IT Innovation, who assisted me with the figure in the presentation and for Domenico Rotondi of TXT Group, both of whom also attended the CISTRANA event.
Following from the overwhelming response from my question about whether to continue the work of the cluster, I would like to know if it would be possible to hold a meeting alongside the next NEM General Assembly in Luxembourg being held 4/5 March. the GA starts 1pm on the 4th and ends 1pm on the 5th. Therefore, we could have a meeting on morning of 4th or afternoon of 5th March. The purpose of the meeting would be to plan future activity e.g. position paper, update to SRA, discuss current or future projects, etc. Please let me know your preferences.

The DG aims to enhance the competitiveness of the EU space and
security sectors by strengthening cooperation with the Member
States, ESA, and industry, and by coordinating research
activities under the 7th Framework Programme (FP) for research
and technological development.
Priorities for 2008 are:
- Developing user-oriented operational information services
through a comprehensive Earth observation system (GMES), so that
the EU’s independent access to strategic information relating to
environment and security is guaranteed.
- Strengthening the space sector in the EU by moving to
co-ordinated space activities at EU and international level, and
through space related research.
- Increasing the technological basis for security in Europe, so
that higher safety levels are possible.

SECURITY European security is a precondition for prosperity and freedom. The need for a comprehensive
security strategy encompassing both civil and defence security measures must be addressed. Budget: €1 400 million (2007 - 2013)
What's the benefit for citizens:
We need to invest in knowledge and develop further technologies in order to protect our citizens
from threats such as terrorism, natural disasters and crime while respecting privacy and
safeguarding fundamental rights.
During FP7, EU funded research will tackle themes linked to civil security (anti-terrorism and
crisis management) and will contribute to a whole range of Community policies such as
transport, mobility, civil protection, energy, environment and health. By co-operating and
coordinating efforts on a Europe-wide scale, the EU can better understand and respond to risks
in a constantly changing world.
What's the benefit for researchers:
Security related research is expected to generate new knowledge and promote the application
of new technologies in the field of civil security. Research in the timeframe of the FP7 will address the following areas:
What's the benefit for industry and SMEs:
Security research will reinforce the competitiveness of the European security industry by
stimulating the cooperation of providers and users for civil security solutions. It will also draw
the best intellectual and technological skills across Europe through the active involvement of
SMEs.
